Mode 1 EV Charging Schema

Mode 1 EV Charging

EV connection to AC supply via socket outlets up to 16A and 250V AC single phase or 480V AC three phase. Providing protective earhting conductors.
Not recommended for the following reasons and not permitted on new EVs in the UK

  • Heating of the socket and cable following use for several hours
  • Risk of fire and electric shock if the installation is faulty and absent of protective devices (RCD)
  • Overloading socket circuit in the property
  • Ordenary extension leads are not permissible

Mode 2 EV Charging

Connection of the EV to the 230 V AC (single phase)  or 480 V AC (three phases) via standard sockets up to 32A AC, supply side protective earthing conductor, and utilizing RCD protection and control pilot function in built-in protection in the cable control box as a part of  EV Charger extension lead.

and use following formula

Charging hours =  Battery size (kWh) / Charger power (kW)
